Discussion Post

Prompt:
For this discussion, you'll want to introduce yourself and tell others what discipline within IT which interests you the most.

Post:
I am Evan Mueller I plan to major in either Mechanical Engineering or Data Science. One of my biggest strengths is math but I don't mean doing a big number times a big number and knowing the answer but I mean pretty complex calc. I took up to calc 3 in High school and never had much of an issue with it and actually enjoyed it. One of my weaknesses is reading especially for long periods of time. I have a hard time staying focused on reading especially when it's something I'm not super interested in and having to read a lot of it. I often end up just skimming through everything which can become detrimental when I miss something important. The IT discipline that most appeals to me is Data Management as this aligns most with Data Science which is what I am most intrigued about IST. In todays world there is so much data about everything from the yards a player gets in football or how well someone drives. The amount of data is only going to increase. Knowing how to analyze the data is big as it allows business to decided what they need to do to make a bigger profit or who to fire when down sizing. A limitation is that some times the data can be an issue if it is not in good enough quality. Jobs are just data scientist which I find very intriguing as even as a kid I enjoyed knowing the percentage of something happing or how much something has happened which is all based on data.

This week I did a group project about the impact of information overload on decision making. With this research my group put out finding in a document. I also did a Discussion post introducing my self and my interests in IT.
